How to take the next steps.....

 
  • Firstly to train to become a driving instructor you will need:

    A full UK or European Union / European Economic Area manual or automatic car driving licence, held for at least 3 years,

    Not been disqualified from driving at any time in the four years before you train,

    Have the ability to read a car number plate at a distance of 27.5 metres (90 feet)

    Be a ‘fit and proper person, in the opinion of the DVSA.

    Any motoring or non-motoring convictions will be taken into account when you’re assessed for inclusion on the Register. You’ll also need an enhanced level Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check Contact us for more information.

  • Learn the Theory.

    You will need to prove you know the theory by completing some Multiple Choice questions and a Hazard Perception test.

    You will need to demonstrate a high standard of car control, driving awareness, anticipation, planning and judgement.

    The duration of the test is for 1 hour and a maximum of 6 minors are permitted.

  • You will need to demonstrate that you can transfer your own knowledge and skills to others within a moving classroom environment.

    You will require a minimum of 40 hours of training.

    You will need to demonstrate a variety of instructional methods, whilst adopting a Client-Centred approach.
